Capo: 4
Tuning: E A D G B E
Hey guys, this is my first guitar tab!
Sorry if there are any mistakes, I've tried to stick as close to the original as possible.
I've made this an easy version to play, hence the need for a capo on the 4th fret.
If you prefer to play this song the more challenging way, along with the original,
transpose the piece down by -4 and remove the capo.
I hope you all enjoy this tab, feel free to leave any questions or positive/negative feedback to
help me improve!
Thanks, Anna

CAPO 4
* ONE STRUM
*Cmaj7
Tom was born in 1942
With eyes of blue
And the doctors said
That his birth was far too Gfast
His Cmaj7heart stopped twice
But yet he survived
As he took his first breath
His mother took her Glast
And his Cmaj7father knew that he wasn't to blame
But he never quite looked at Tom the same
After Gthat
And he Cmaj7rarely spoke about her
But when he Ddid
He said, "Your mother used to say Gthis
"When the Cmaj7skies are looking bad my dear
And your heart's lost all its hope
After dawn there will be sunshine
And all the dust will go
The Gskies will clear my darling
I'll wake up with the one I love the most
C *D
And in the morning, I'll make you up
GSome tea and toast."
Well, they Cmaj7met through a friend
Who introduced them
And the first thing Tom said was, "Would you like to Gdance?"
They Cmaj7moved with each other
And when the music got slower
He said, "Don't let go of my Ghand."
He said, "It's Cmaj7only polite if I ask you tonight
Would it be alright, if I could walk you Ghome?"
That night he Cmaj7told her of his birth
And he said when it hurt
He thought about what his mother said about tea and Gtoast
Well, Cmaj7two quick years went by
They were side by Dside
And Cmaj7without a plan they conceived a little Dchild
He said, Cmaj7"Woman, I love you and this you know
But I only Dearn enough for our food and clothes
But EmI love you and this baby until the day that I die."
She said, Cmaj7"We'll take care of this little life
And we'll Dfall in love with her baby blue eyes
And Emwe'll be alright from some advice that I know."
She said, Cmaj7"I never got to meet her
But if I Ddid, I'm sure your mother would have said Gthis
"When the Cmaj7skies are looking bad my dear
And your heart's lost all its hope
After dawn there will be sunshine
And all the dust will go
The Gskies will clear my darling
We'll show this baby all the love we know
C *D
And in the morning, I'll make you up
Some tea and toast.G"
Well, heCmaj7 took those words
And he made them proud
He worked Dday after day
And hour after hour
So that Emthey could buy a little house just on the outside of town
Their Cmaj7little girl grew up and so did they
They said Dthat they loved each other everyday
And Emforty years later, that brings us to now
And as they're Cmaj7walking down the street
Her grip loosens on his hand
He puts his Darm around her side as she falls to the ground
He hears her Embreathing and that's the only sound
Her Cmaj7body on the floor attracts a worried crowd
Tears Droll off his face as he says, "Don't let go,Em now."
And he's Cmaj7sitting by her bed in the hospital ward
Then their Ddaughter walks in with a family of her Emown
She says, "Cmaj7Dad, I don't know if she can hear you now
But there's Done thing mum would want you to Emknow."
"When the Cmaj7skies are looking bad my dear
And your heart's lost all its hope
After dawn there will be sunshine
And all the dust will go
The Gskies will clear my darling
Now it's time for you to let go
C *D
Our girl'll wake you up in the mornin'
*G
with some tea and toast."
