Go By - Elliott Smith
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: ciaran rooney
Tuning: DGCFAD
From "New Moon", disk one. It's played in D tuning (DGCFAd), as in tuned down a full step.
For simplicity the chords are treated as if it was in standard (EADGBe)
The intro is based around E major, you play the top string parts with your baby finger
d|---2--2--0-----2--3--0---|
A|---0-----------0---------|
F|---1-----------1---------|
C|-------------------------|
G|-------------------------|
D|-0----------0------------|
Here are the chords.
Note the D/F# is a transition from G down to Em (and C, sometimes).
It's like this:
d|------------------|
A|--3---------------|
F|--2---------------|
C|--0---------------|
G|------------------|
D|--2---------------|
Likewise when moving back and forth from A to C in the pre-chorus you
transition via a B bass note.
E.. Go on parade and fGade
D/F#Hit the ceiling slCow
GSpending all your time witD/F#h some gEmirl

A... You're only passing Cby
Chorus:
You're going up half-steps from the C all the way to Em.
The C#m7b5 has this shape:
d|------------------|
A|--5---------------|
F|--4---------------|
C|--5---------------|
G|--4---------------|
D|------------------|
Then your D will be a bar chord with 5th fret fifth string as bass note,
then the D#m7b5 is just the C#m7b5 shape above moved up two frets (6th fret bass note)
so your Em will have the 7th fret as your bass note.

Here's some of the lead guitar parts which play over the verse.
.. Spending all your time .... Wound up tight .. Dressed all in white
d|-10--8---7--8---7---------------10----8-----7------10----7--8---7--------|
A|-12--10--8--10--8---------------12----10----8------12----8--10--8--------|

C|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|

d|------10-------------------------5-----5----5----------------------------|
A|---8-----10-8-10-8--8--5-------5---5-5---55------------------------------|
F|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
C|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
You'll need to listen to the song to figure out how these lead parts fit in with
the chords as they're quite tricky.
Corrections welcome!
