I've seen many versions of this tab, though the ones with a capo on two are never correct! If the chords are the same for two bars, I've put the chord signs only when they really emphasize them. Verse
GTwo days past eighteen He was waitGin' for the bus in his army greens CSat down in a booth at a cafe there GGave his order to the girl with a bow in her hair GHe's a little shy so she gave him a smile So he sGaid "would you mind sittin' down for a while And talkCin' to me I'm feelin' a Glittle low?" She said "I'm ofFf in an hour andC I know where weG can go."
So tGhey went down and they sat on the pier He said I beGt you got a boyfriend but I don't care I've got Cno one to send a letter to Would you mFind if I sent onCe back here tGo you?
Chorus
EmI cried NeCver gonna hold the hand of another guy GToo young for him they told her DWaitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier EmOur love will never end CWaitin' for the soldier to come back again GNever more to be alone DWhen the letter D7says a soldier's coming Ghome
So the lGetters came from an army camp In CalGifornia then Vietnam And he toCld his heart It might be Glove and all of the things he was so scared of Said wGhen it's gettin' kinda rough over here I think abGout that day sittin' down at the pier And clCose my eyes and see your pretty smGile Now don't wForry but I won't be aCble to writGe for a while
Chorus
One FrEmiday night at a football game The LoCrd's Prayer said and the anthem sang A man sGaid folks would you bow your heads For the lDist of local Vietnam dead CEmryin' all alone under the stands Was the piCccolo player in the marching band And onGe name read and no one really cared But a pDretty little girl with a bow in her hair
(Instrumental of the verse) Chorus
EmI cried NeCver gonna hold the hand of another guy GToo young for him they told her DWaitin' for the love of the travelin' soldier EmOur love will never end CWaitin' for the soldier to come back again GNever more to be alone DWhen the letter D7says a soldier's coming Ghome
Sounds almost spot on to me!
